The Top Five Reasons to Use Natural SLS Free Shampoo Bars
Shampoo bar users often tell us they’ll “never go back to that plastic bottle stuff.” However, we know many may not be familiar with shampoo bar advantages or how to use them. Here’s a summary:

1. No Synthetic Chemicals
Liquid commercial shampoos often contain ingredients such as parabens (synthetic preservative) to prolong shelf-life and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) to boost the foaming properties. SLS was originally designed as a degreasing agent; it can be harsh in some concentrations, potentially irritating the scalp and stripping the hair of natural oils.

Natural, SLS free shampoo bars are made with ingredients such as natural essential oils, and skin-nourishing oils such as Coconut and Shea Butter. In some cases, the soap maker will add a bit more castor seed oil to a shampoo bar for the extra lather we enjoy in our shampoos. Castor seed oil has properties moisturizing properties beneficial to skin care, so the rich, natural bubbles come with a bonus!

Chemical-Free Shampoo BarsMore About Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association discourages use of sodium lauryl sulfate in products intended for prolonged use, unless in low concentrations. Information has circulated on the Internet and elsewhere that shampoos and other products containing SLS or SLES cause cancer. However, there is no evidence that either ingredient is carcinogenic. Since these ingredients can cause skin and eye irritation, it is prudent to discontinue use if these symptoms appear.

2. Environmentally-Friendly Packaging
A shampoo bar is packaged like a bar of soap – no plastic bottles to dispose of or pile up in landfills.

3. Vegan Friendly
Many natural shampoo bars contain no animal products, so are an option for those with a vegan or vegetarian lifetstyle.

4. Traveling Multitasker
Shampoo bars are not liquid, so no problem with air travel carry-on. They’re great for head to toe use – fewer products to bring along.

5. Easy to Use
Wet hair, lather up using the shampoo bar and rinse as usual. We suggest cutting the bar in half for easier handling. Great for kids too – no bottles to spill! TIP: You may find your hair feels different after shampooing with a natural bar, than it did when using commercial shampoos. It may take a week or two for your hair to adjust, and might be helpful to use a natural rinse: combine 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1 cup warm water and rinse hair after shampooing. Leave in or rinse out – either way, the scent of vinegar will dissipate after your hair dries.

No harsh, synthetic chemicals, environmentally-friendly, vegan-friendly, multi-tasks from head to toe, travels well, easy to use – and affordable too.Try a natural, vegan shampoo bar today!
